Earth Month has us thinking about our impact on our environment. The beauty industry has long been criticized for their physical impact on landfills and chemicals that can have an adverse effect on the environment. It is reassuring to see that beauty and skincare companies have made strides in improving the quality of plant-based and cruelty-free products.
With so many buzzwords in this space, how do you become a planet-conscious consumer? Knowledge is power, and with tools, you are able to make educated decisions. According to ClearForMe, a company dedicated to helping companies choose clean ingredients and shoppers find clean beauty products, 61% of Millennials care about the ingredients listed in their favorite beauty and skincare products. The ClearForMe platform contains a searchable database of ingredients, and currently hosts over 1,400 clean beauty brands, making it easier to do the research!
Thanks to growing consumer concern and education, we are seeing an uptick in “clean beauty.” Retailers like Sephora have established seals of approval for clean beauty products and brands by implementing their formulation guidelines. Read more about “Clean at Sephora.”
The clean beauty industry continues to evolve from a trend into a large sector within the global beauty market, with expected growth to $14B in 2028 (from $7B in 2022). Explosive growth can be, in part, attributed to demand for effective products that are safe not only for us, but also for the planet. Proving that the greater the demand, the faster the movement can go mainstream.
From carbon-neutral production methods to vegan-friendly formulas, refillable containers and innovative alternative packaging, there are plenty of ways to reduce the adverse effects on our planet. While none are a catch-all cure for our collective consumption problem, they’re all a promising start and every little helps when it comes to protecting the environment.
Here’s our selection of natural ingredient powered sustainability-focused finds across skin, hair, body, and makeup.
