It’s that time of year!
Families are worrying about holiday photos and what to dress everyone in. First and foremost, your holiday photos should reflect who you are as a family. Gone are the days of everyone wearing the exact same outfit.
The trend now leans towards coordinating colors and styles that complement each other without being overly matchy-matchy. Think harmonious colors and patterns that speak to the holiday spirit without drowning out individuality.
Here are a variety of holiday looks that are all picture perfect.
This is first look is perfect for a fall family photo. We’ve chosen neutral colors with rich earthtones, like brown and deep charcoal gray, for stylish, but neutral looks that are timeless. When pulling this look together, we started with Jace’s look. What’s not to love about the brown color of his corduroy pants. Textures like corduroy are always great when thinking about what to wear for a photo. The neutral pattern with three different colors on the sweater pairs well (similar). For Layla‘s outfit, the teen department had just what we needed – a sweater in an almost identical color (similar). It has a little bit of differentiation in the colors and a wide collar for visual interest. The adult department at H&M had perfect items for mom and dad. Alika’s blazer incorporates warm brown and black in a traditional check pattern. We’ve kept the rest of her outfit neutral with a cream-colored shell underneath (similar) and a stylish pair of jeans in a dark wash and a boot cut. Gene, the dad, is anchoring this look with a cable knit sweater in a gorgeous charcoal color. By going to a store like H&M, where you can get books for the entire family, we were able to style this family photo with a very minimal hassle.
Sometimes you want your photos to feel wintery, but neutral. For this family photo we used looks in winter white and shades of blue. We found outfits for both kids, and mom, at Zara. Layla is wearing a beautiful boho winter white dress with silver threads woven throughout. We added even more sparkle to her look with adorable Mary Jane flats. For Jace we wanted to bring a little bit of blue into the look, so while his shirt is winter white it has a sky-blue checked print, which goes perfectly with his blue jeans. The inspiration for this family photo started with this sky-blue satin skirt we paired with a sleeveless turtleneck sweater for a cozy but sophisticated look. The shades of blue are continued in Gene’s outfit from lululemon. His blue stretch shirt pairs perfectly with the ABC navy pants for a look that’s both comfortable and on trend.
For this final look, we went to Nordstrom to pull together a more traditional holiday look for the whole family. Starting with Gene, we went with simple luxury with a gorgeous, 100% cashmere sweater from Nordstrom, in this beautiful evergreen color. Of course, the sweater is super soft, but it has a little interest with the quarter zip but the neckline. It pairs beautifully with the sweater that Jace is wearing – this is a great holiday print featuring red, green and khaki colors that pairs perfectly with black Levi’s, which will be a staple in his closet year-round. And let’s talk about these shoes. They look great with the outfit, and we paired them with his other outfits too! We used the colors in the sweater as a jumping point for the rest of the outfits. For Layla this fuzzy cardigan pairs perfectly with a corduroy miniskirt. Textures are important when you’re talking about clothing for photos. Of course we can’t forget about mom. Alika is wearing this adorable satin dress with polka dot detail wrapped up with a box. Traditional Christmas colors and interesting textures make for a picture-perfect holiday photo.
So, when styling your family for photos, you don’t have to match, but you should look like you came from the same catalog. All of these looks and more can be found at Galleria Dallas.
