Fashion designer Lindsay Nicholas has lived and worked all over the world – from Manhattan to Melbourne – but considers herself a New Yorker at heart.

Last month, Lindsay opened her Galleria Dallas store on Level 1, near Tommy Bahama, so we stopped in to learn a little more.

How did you get your start in the fashion industry?

I’ve always been drawn to fashion, but I had a long career in marketing and advertising first. I was living in NYC and working in advertising on 9/11 and, like many people, it became a turning point to really follow my passion. I went back to school at night and got a certificate degree in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design. I loved that so much that I went to The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and got a degree in Image Consulting. One day I walked into my boss’s office and quit, and he basically told me he wasn’t accepting it, so it was another 15 years before I finally began Lindsay Nicholas New York (which was born nine years ago).

What inspired you to start your own brand? 

I traveled a lot for work, and I knew what executive women were missing in their wardrobes. I saw a gap in the market for pieces that work seamlessly from day to night, work to weekend, and that are truly trans-seasonal and travel well. My designs are about sophistication without the fuss — clothes that are beautifully made and wearable for years to come.

What drew you to opening a store in Dallas? 

Dallas has this incredible mix of style, energy, and a discerning customer base that appreciates luxury with a modern twist. It’s a city full of bold, ambitious women who understand fashion’s power to elevate not just how they look but how they feel. When we looked at opening a store in the US, Dallas felt like the perfect fit for Lindsay Nicholas New York. And Galleria Dallas has an upscale, curated mix of high-end luxury brands, so it’s really where we wanted to be. And we pinch ourselves that we are right across from Louis Vuitton!

How has living between Australia and the United States influenced your line? 

Living between these two places has given me a unique perspective. In Australia, there's a relaxed elegance that contrasts with New York’s fast-paced, urban energy (which is quickly becoming the norm in Dallas, as well). This duality comes through in my designs — pieces that are both refined and relaxed, perfect for life on the go but always polished and elevated.

Tell us a little about your brand and designs.

Lindsay Nicholas New York is about intelligent luxury. My designs are rooted in the belief that clothes should be loved, timeless, and versatile. I focus on high-quality fabrics and tailoring, creating pieces that move effortlessly from the boardroom to brunch and everywhere in between. They’re trans-seasonal, meaning you can wear them year-round, no matter where you are, which is really important for my lifestyle, and that of many of my clients.

Where does your design inspiration come from? 

Everywhere, really. Mainly from being a keen observer of “cool” women and also art and architecture. Each piece we make is a fusion of structured precision and fluidity, channeling the quiet confidence of a cityscape at dawn or the understated elegance of a gallery at dusk. Being a brand with urban roots, we create garments that tell a story of strength, grace, and perpetual movement.

Who is a Lindsay Nicholas New York shopper? 

She’s a woman who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to stand out. She values quality, timelessness, and versatility in her wardrobe. Whether she’s running a business, traveling the world, or juggling the demands of modern life, the Lindsay Nicholas New York shopper is always polished, confident, and a bit daring. She dresses for herself, not for others.

What piece are you most proud of? 

I couldn’t possibly pick. It’s more about how we make women feel when they try on our pieces. Our designs empower them to embrace their individuality, ensuring they feel bold, intelligent, and unapologetically themselves. We see this nearly every time a woman steps out of our fitting room. It’s in their posture and their facial expression.

What can customers expect in-store? 

Our stores are an extension of the brand — elegant, modern, and intimate. When you walk in, you’ll find a curated collection of our signature pieces, along with exclusive in-store offerings. Our pieces are meant to be touched and tried on to fully appreciate the quality of the flattering fits and luxurious textures. Customers can expect one-on-one styling consultations, and I do believe our client services are second to none with our warm and welcoming team.
